Mr. Thompson has a Bachelor of Music Education Degree with a major in organ
and theory from Henderson State University. The Thompsons became
involved with
handbells and active in AGEHR in 1965 when they developed a handbell
program at the Methodist Children's Home of Arkansas in Little Rock.

She has served as a clinician for many Area and National handbell festivals and seminars, and from 1989-91, she served as AGEHR National Secretary. In 1995 she was designated "Master Instructor of Handbell Notation," a lifetime honor conferred by the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers, Inc. Martha Lynn received the highest honor of AGEHR in 2001 when she received the Honorary Life Member status. -- Diane has been ringing handbells for the past ten years, beginning
her
handbell career with the Pacific Bells in the Los Angeles area under
the direction of Ardis Freeman. Five years ago (shortly after the wedding),
Diane moved with her husband, Jason, to the San Francisco Bay Area to ring
with Sonos. She has a Bachelor's degree in music education from Kansas
State University, is a music teacher for the Hayward Unified School District,
and is currently working on a Master's degree in music education. In addition
to handbells, Diane plays the flute (and whatever else is required of a
junior high band teacher).

-- Jason has been listowner for "Handbell-L" since its inception
in 1994, when he founded the "-L" during a contract with NASA's Jet Propulsion
Laboratory. He began his ringing career with Pacific Bells under
Dr. Ardis Freeman and has rung with Sonos,
a professional handbell group, and been its audition coordinator since
1995. In addition to ringing, Jason has been a leader in the community
handbell ensemble (CHE) movement, organizing the first complete track at
a Director's Seminar devoted to CHE issues; he has been published in Overtones
(recordings reviews, electronic resources); he has taught ringing technique
with his wife, Diane, all over the country; he edits the "State of the
Art" column for Virtuoso; and he has one of the largest, if not
"the" largest, collections of handbell
CDs. Although currently earning bread as a software engineer,
Jason and his wife have been working towards the goal of being full-time
handbell "ringers" for over five years. Their union's first
child was a four-octave handbell set. It has brought them much joy.

Edmund F. Tompkins has been the Minister of Music and Organist at Morning
Star Lutheran Church since February, 2004. He has served four years as
Area III AGEHR Virginia State Chair and is currently serving as an elected
member of the Area III Board of Directors. He has led workshops throughout
Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida. He has served on the handbell
faculty numerous times at both the Presbyterian Conference on Music and
Worship at Montreat NC and the Church Music Conference at Massanetta Springs,
VA.
